There is nothing generic about this shop! All of the gift items in our Hoofbeats gift shop are custom made to represent just how spectacular this carousel (PTC #6) truly is. This very special little shop is tucked into the southwest corner of the museum and it is always filled with sunlight and smiles.
25 cents to ride a magnificent 110 year old wooden animal is indeed a great bargain! But an even better bargain in waiting if you purchase our 10‐4‐2 ticket...Ten rides for two dollars. Use it all at once for ten people or use it ten times over a period of weeks for just you!
There are 46 majestic animals on the Kit Carson County Carousel but a carousel must have figures of different sizes as the circumference of the inside of the carousel platform is far less than the circumference of the outside...and those large figures just won’t fit!
The Wurlitzer Monster Military Band Organ churns out glorious Christmas carols and hot cider and cookies are served in the museum building next to the carousel. All rides, refreshments and the museum tour are free!
The Colorado Legislature has declared August 20th as Kit Carson County Carousel Day and the official birthday of America's favorite Merry-Go-Round. The Forty-six animals on the Kit Carson County Carousel turn 100 this year. The Kit Carson County Carousel will be celebrating its Centennial throughout the summer of 2005.
